To answer this, we need to look back into the history of NCC (National Cadet Corps). NCC is the young wing of the Indian Armed Forces. It was established on 15 July 1948, with the motto Unity and Discipline NCC strives to be and is one the best-united forces of the Nation, Bringing together the youth hailing from different parts of the country and shaping them into disciplined citizens of our Nation. NCC was introduced by the Britishers, with the name " University Corps " which was later replaced by University.

Training Corps (UTC), and then its name was changed to make it more attractive to the youth and was named as University Officers Training Corps(UOTC), Which was established during the time of World War II in 1942. When we got independence, A committee headed by H N Kunzru,  suggested that there should be a cadet organization established in schools and colleges of our nation, And on 15 July 1950 the soldier Youth Foundation Act was accepted by the Governor-General, and hence it came into existence. The girls' division was raised in the year 1949 to give equal importance to the girls as well. BY now NCC was only for the Army but later on, an inter-service image was given to NCC as in 1950 Air Wing was added followed by the naval wing in the year 1952. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru played a significant role in the growth of the NCC.

Why NCC was created?

NCC was created under the defense Act 1917 as at that time was a shortage in the armed forces so the basic idea was to make up for the shortage in the Army. NCC played a major role in wartime as well as in the peacetime in our nation.

    In Sino-India War, To meet the requirement of the nation. NCC training was made compulsory in the year 1963. But later on, in the year 1968, it was made voluntary based.

  NCC is also known as the " SECOND LINE OF DEFENCE" because of the role they played in the Indo-Pak war 1965 and Bangladesh-Pakistan war 1971, In the War, NCC organized camps for the supports of supply ( arm and ammunition) as were used as patrol parties. And many more...

The NCC cadets also work as a helping hand in time of rescue work, traffic control, awareness.
 rallies etc.

NCC cadets are the mini soldiers of our nation.  We know the training of a cadet helps in inculcate Officer Like Qualities (OLQs). A sense of responsibility and discipline as well. It unites our youth and converts them into true Gentlemen. Training with regular Army, Navy, and Air Force helps them gaining exposure and real-time experience and shaping them into " SECOND LINE OF DEFENCE".

Career options with the help of NCC

NCC provides careers in defense and with public and private sectors as well. In defense, there is NCC special entry. It always adds a plus point to your resume or cv, which increases your chances of getting a job. There are seats reserved in various government exams. Sahara Group provides an annual scheme of Rs 1 Crore for NCC cadets. NCC also provides a scholarship for the higher education of its cadets. Most of the states in India provide reserved seats for NCC cadets in their Entrance tests of Universities and jobs.
